NORA KASTEN Artist Oil Painting "Floral on Battenberg Lace"

"Floral on Battenberg Lace"
Oil painting on linen  (36" x 24")  From the archives  SOLD

New Curtains

" I woke up this morning seeing the new curtains, plaid drapery with Battenberg lace insets, at the windows and the sun shining.

These curtains were my big project undertaken last week and warranted me buying a new Viking sewing machine.  Let me tell you - sewing is not at all like the old days.  Today it is a breeze to get the work done with a digital sewing machine.  Maybe, I'll sew something else now.  When I was a young mother I routinely designed and made clothes for myself and young sons.

This curtain sewing project has made me realize anew that my years of sewing is what gives the sense of measurement that comes easy in painting for me."

. . . .  . Oh, I forgot to tell you that hanging curtains and drapes is as hard as it ever was.

Hi Nora, oh my, I can relate to this entire post. I used to make all my clothes when I was young and pregnant, and then that of my children when they were toddlers. In high school my father would get bags of ladies clothing from a local charity and I would make new clothes for myself out of them. I'd shorten shirts, make bolero jackets out of suit coats, etc. Since my sewing maching died (tearful) I have not replaced it and don't think I ever will.
Your curtains (and whole room) are so beautiful. Display them proudly!

What a beautiful room Nora! Nice and bright. Glad you are back in Naples. Will you be attending any photography meetings - DPI-SIG 11/11 or Ritz 11/18?

Pam, I have the Ritz Camera Club on my calendar for the 18th and plan to go. Is it still at The Naples News bldg.? I hope you're going too and we could go for a cup of coffee afterwards. Can we do it?

Carol, don't say never. I was surprised how easy sewing is today compared with the days of our youth. It sounds like we both sewed because it was a way to get the clothes we wanted and couldn't afford otherwise. Sewing is not the money saver it used to be but it is an art in itself and enjoyable.

Hi Nora, your curtains look lovely. I didn't realize the bedroom opened to the pool area. How amazing! I think I'd start everyday with a warm morning swim...

Hope you're doing well and keeping busy. Any chance of picking up paintbrushes in your near future? I couldn't help but think of you while doing those orange roses the other day. I wished you were here to guide me! Somehow I think your spirit did just that... Sure would love to see more new roses show up on your empty canvases. I miss your art.

Oh my goodness Nora, your paintings are beautiful. I can feel the emotion you put into each one and the feeling pops right out onto those who get the pleasure of seeing them, such as they have for me! I especially love your painting called "Little Daydreamer".

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and becoming a follower. It thrills me to meet a new face. I also became a follower of you so I can return often.

Nora -

Your curtains look lovely and your sewing skills are amazing! I love to sew, but am going to have to check out the new machines. Mine is ancient and was the most basic model at the time. All digital sounds pretty interesting.

The yarn is finally going in the mail to you today.

Hugs - Christy
