From Unity's "DAILY WORD"
Family
I strengthen my family through the power of love.

Sunday, November 22, 2015

A towering pine or mighty oak draws on rain, sunshine, air, and soil to thrive. Similarly, we grow through the comfort, inspiration, ideas, and enrichment we receive from others.
Family is a vital part of our spiritual support system. Today I give thanks for my family and others who are important to me. As we gather for special celebrations, I embrace our similarities and differences.
When we are apart, I enrich my relationships by reaching out. I strengthen our connection through simple acts of kindness, such as calling or sending a note. Near or far, I bless others with warm thoughts and prayers of gratitude for their presence in my life.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.–Galatians 5:22-23

A MESSAGE FROM UNITY'S "DAILY WORD"
Being
Divine love is the essence of my being.

Monday, September 7, 2015

Being productive is important—even necessary—to life. Yet constant doing may damage my health. It may also keep me from knowing my intrinsic value and experiencing love.
I restore my well-being by taking time to do nothing. I let go of mental planning or worrying and center myself in the boundless peace of God. I release any belief that I have to do more or become someone better to be worthy of God’s acceptance and love.
Divine love is all-encompassing and is, in fact, the essence of my own being. As I relax and simply be myself, I am revitalized. As I bask in the stillness, I experience my eternal oneness with the infinite love and peace of the Divine.

“Be still, and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”—Psalm 46:10

Daily Word: Daily Inspiration From Unity

Pray for Others
I pray for others with faith and gratitude.

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

When praying for others, I center myself in the awareness of God within me. I remember that God is also within those for whom I pray. I affirm my faith in the power of prayer and give thanks for the activity of Spirit in all situations.
If I am tempted to worry, I realign my emotions, thoughts, actions, and words, for they are part of my prayer. When I pray for a loved one’s healing, I visualize them whole and healthy. When I pray for a friend seeking a job, I imagine them gainfully employed in fulfilling work. Praying for the people of the world, I imagine Divine Love, Light, and Life at work in their lives.
Filled with faith and focused on gratitude, I live in prayer for others.

Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.—Colossians 4:2

Abstract painting by Artist, NORA KASTEN

"GOLD & EMERALD"

Acrylic painting on canvas   (8"x8")        /       Painted January 25, 2010

"I am finally settled into my new, much larger home here in Grasmere At Wyndemere in Naples, FL.   My happiness is far beyond words available to express.  Thankfulness and LOVE abounds!"

FROM "THE DAILY WORD"
Thursday, November 7, 2013
LET GO, LET GOD
I welcome abundant good as I let go and let God.
I am grateful for my tenacity, for it serves me well. Pushing myself to cross the finish line or complete a project on time can help me succeed. However, divine wisdom tells me there is also a time to let go.
Some races are not mine to run. Some projects are better accomplished by slowing down. Some answers come when I wait for inspiration, rather than force a solution. I pray to know what is mine to do—when to push and when to allow.
When I let go, I make room for God. I open myself to divine wisdom, guidance, and ideas—for success, insights, and inner peace. I make way for unlimited good to come through unexpected channels. I welcome abundant good as I let go and let God.

Agree with God, and be at peace; in this way good will come to you.—Job 22:21

Nora Kasten artist Acrylic Painting "Floral Combustion" / Karl Update

"Floral Combustion"

Acrylic painting on gallery wrapped canvas  (6" x 6" x 1")  From the archives

"Yesterday and last night was not easy for Karl.  Yesterday morning the home health tech from The Moorings Park helped him take a shower but his feet are so swollen, it's hard for him to stand.  The "miracle" diuretic Karl took yesterday along with the regular diuretics doesn't seem to have helped much but hopefully we'll see improvement later in the day, today.  His breathing is still quite labored but he is sleeping right now in his recliner in the family room."

Nora Kasten Artist Acrylic Painting "Apples & Oranges" / Karl Update

"Apples & Oranges"

Acrylic painting on gallery wrapped canvas  (30" x 36" x 1.5")  From the archives

"First, we went to the doctor's office today and then Karl to the hospital as an out-patient.  There was 1.8 liters of fluids removed and the doctor honored Karl's wish not to be admitted to the hospital. Tomorrow he will take a one time a week super dose of a different diuretic med along with extra potassium in hopes of gaining more time and relief.  If it works he'll do the same thing next Tuesday, the 17th.  Thankfully, Karl is not in pain but he's very weak and and his breathing is labored.  There really is power, living in this present moment and peace continues to abide within."

Framed Painting by Artist NORA KASTEN

"Ruby Gem" (framed)
Acrylic & Pastel painting on sanded paper on board framed  (44"x44")

I framed and hung "Ruby Gem" this morning in a passageway between the kitchen and family room.  Of course getting a good photo of it is difficult because of window and lamp reflections on it from across the room.  I like this painting and even my husband says it's pleasant to view but he might like it even better upside down . . .  . he doesn't like the abstract style.

There are plenty of paintings to view on my website in the traditional style as well as my "Modern Expressions".

"Ruby Gem" Acrylic & Pastel abstract painting by Artist NORA KASTEN

Acrylic & Soft Pastel abstract painting on sanded paper on board  (36"x36")

I attached the strong sanded paper to a heavy cardboard and textured some grit gel medium over parts of it.  Then I applied thin washes of Matisse transparent acrylic paint, adding metallic copper and gold paints at the end.  The bright yellow and orange pastel lightly over the metallic acrylic paint really makes it sparkle which doesn't show so much in the photo. Below is the painting at the end of the acrylic paint stage and before adding soft pastels.

"Wilted Roses" oil painting by Artist Nora Kasten

Oil painting on linen   (18"x14")

This is a detail of "Wilted Roses" above.

I know that I said a pastel was in the works but I got sidetracked.  A friend, Nardena Sullivan, brought these beautiful roses to me a week ago and they stayed fresh for six days.  This morning the few roses still on their stems were bent down and there was a pile of rose petals laying on the table beside them.  It was really a beautiful sight, begging to be painted.

"I certainly am not pleased with this painting and having second thoughts about the abstract.  Today I prepared a 35"x 35" heavy cardboard with pumice and acrylic molding paste to paint a large contemporary pastel.  It's been quite a while since I've used my pastels and this seems to be a good time although I'm not looking forward to the messiness of them."

I applied Light modeling paste with a palette knife to this 30"x 40" gallery wrap canvas and the next day applied transparent acrylic paints using a large brush.  It will be interesting to see how this painting develops.
